Other Info: According to CWGC, Ernest died aged 27 on 12th October 1916. He was serving as a Lance Corporal in the 11th Battalion at the time and was a recipient of the Military Medal. Ernest is remembered at Hamel Military Cemetery, Beaumont Hamel, grave reference II.B.II. Additional name information from here.

Other Info: For Active Service. According CWGC, Francis died on 17th October 1916. He is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 7c. His parents later lived at 103 Beaconsfield Road, Hastings.

Francis Bissenden was my mother’s father. She, Gladys Gertrude Bissenden (Wright) was born in April 30, 1916 and never met her father. Mom’s mother Caroline Ellen Bissenden (nee Lepper) remarried a William Wright. When mom was about 8, she along with older brother Frank and parents emigrated to Canada and settled in Thunder Bay (then Fort William) Ontario. (Thank you to Michelle Sim for this information).
