According to CWGC, Frank died aged 23 on 13th August 1917. He is remembered at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial on panel 20.

Frank is not named on Hastings War Memorial.

Other Info: According to CWGC, George died aged 23 on 1st January 1916. He is remembered at Herne Bay Cemetery, grave reference T.38. This webpage provides the following information about his death: “Private Puttick was severely wounded by shrapnel and injured in the spine on the 7th December at Messines, in cutting barbed wire. He had since been in hospital at Herne Bay, where he had received every kindness, and had borne his illness with great fortitude. He succumbed to heart-failure and paralysis consequent on the injury to the spinal cords”.

Other Info: According to CWGC, Edward died aged 19 on 7th July 1916. He was serving with the 58th Company, Machine Gun Corps. Edward is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 5c and 12c.

This webpage provides the following quote about Edward: “It is with regret that we announce that Private Puttick, second son of Mr. W. Puttick, of North-terrace, has been killed in action. The young soldier, who was only 19 years of age, enlisted twelve months ago last November, in the Seaforth Highlanders, and then transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. In a letter received from the officer of the young man’s company, the parents are informed that their son was killed by a shell in the early days of this last great battle, while he was calling for stretcher bearers for a wounded comrade. In the letter the officer says:— “He has been with me ever since the Company was formed, and I always found him a trustworthy and willing soldier. The loss is indeed great, but don’t forget he died fighting for the right.”

Other Info: Returned to the front after three months in hospital with frostbite. According to CWGC, Albert, by then a Lance Corporal, died aged 25 on 8th October 1918. He is remembered at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gouy, grave reference IV.B.10.

An article published in the Hastings & St Leonards Observer on 30th November 1918 provided a second photograph and stated that Albert was killed in action.

Francis Bissenden was my mother’s father. She, Gladys Gertrude Bissenden (Wright) was born in April 30, 1916 and never met her father. Mom’s mother Caroline Ellen Bissenden (nee Lepper) remarried a William Wright. When mom was about 8, she along with older brother Frank and parents emigrated to Canada and settled in Thunder Bay (then Fort William) Ontario. (Thank you to Michelle Sim for this information).
