Additional Info: An article published in the Hastings & St Leonards Observer on 31st March 1917 reads; “We regret to learn that Walter Lewis (Son of our townsman, Mr J. J. Lewis, late R.S.M., 6th Dragoon Guards) is, after being missing for months, reported as killed.

According to CWGC, Walter died on 23rd July 1916. He is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 15B.

The photograph was sent in and perhaps the handwriting was misinterpreted, however the uniform matches that of the Cameron Highlanders.
