Richard Bourn

Richard Bourn

Rank: Sapper

Regiment: Royal Engineers

Parents: Mr & Mrs Bourn

Address: 1 Wellington Road, Hastings

Other Info: Sapper Bourn enlisted two days after war was declared, giving up his post as an electrical engineer for the purpose. He has made the two vases shown in the picture out of the shell cases. One of these (bearing the Artillery badge) was given him by a friend in the French artillery, it being a shell with which that friend brought down a Taube aeroplane. On the front of the other shell is the R.E. cap badge worn by Sapper Bourn part of each day since he enlisted up to the time he made and sent home the shells.
