Other Info: Edward was one of 199 sailors that were saved when HMS Formidable sunk after the ship was torpedoed twice by German submarine U24 on 1st January 1915. He was rescued by the trawler Provident. Information from here.

Other Info: Was in the naval engagement in the Heligoland Bight.

Was on the Queen Mary when she was sunk in the action off Jutland on 31st May 1915. His father is well known as an employee of the telephone service and a Lieutenant in the Blacklands CLB. The lost sailor was a bugler and joined the Navy six years ago, having previously been a naval volunteer. He was a good shot, and when 14 years of age won the boy’s challenge cup at Bisley.

According to CWGC, Bertram was 22 when he died and is remembered at Portsmouth Naval Memorial on panel 12. He was born in Charlton, London and his parents later lived in Bexhill.

Son of William and Eliza Bishop, of Brookland, Kent; husband of Elizabeth Bishop, of 95, Emmanuel Rd., West Hill, Hastings, Sussex. He is remembered at the Crepy-En-Valois Communal Cemetery, grave reference; south west corner.
