Additional information from Herbert’s Grandson Peter: ‘Served in the Cinque Ports volunteer rifles, joined 2nd batt KRR in 1906 and served in Jublipoor in India, discharged in 1913 called up for WW1 and embarked for France with 1st troops to land holds 1914 star, believed injured in Battle of Loos’.

Other Info: Believed to be the only member of the fishing fraternity who has joined the Army. Charley is well known in the Old Town and comes of a very old fishing family. He was reported missing after the Battle of Vezennes (Sic) on August 30th. One brother is serving in the Royal Fleet Reserve, another is in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and another is Captain of the local fishing boat ‘Mayflower’
