Additional name information from the Lives of the First World War website. An article published in the Hastings & St Leonards Observer on 23rd November 1918 reads; “Died of wound received through an explosion of a concealed trap.”

Other Info: Text reads: “…is on Active Service somewhere in France…and has had the honour on shaking hands with HRH the Prince of Wales. Poulton, who is a very clever performer on the one string fiddle was taking part in a concert when some officers arrived. Poulton was encored and then he learnt one of the officers was Heir to the Throne of England. He was presented to the Prince, who shook hands with him and signed a programme which Poulton will naturally treasure as a valuable memento of his war experiences.

Other Info: According to CWGC, Japheth died aged 39 on 25th November 1916 whilst serving aboard HM Trawler Burnley. The British Navy hired trawler was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-4, off Orfordness. All 19 crew were lost. Jepheth is remembered at Chatham Naval Memorial on panel 16.
