Other Info: Mentioned in Despatches reads: ‘Captain E G Fenning, of the East African Transport Corps, who was mentioned in General Smut’s despatch a few days ago, was in the Borough Surveyor’s Office from 1898 to 1903. He then went to the Office of Sir Alexander Bennie in London and the joined the Uganda Government Survey. He was in command of a large body of Waganda porters, 10,000 strong, who formed the transport for the Belgian Column. At Tabora he had the happiness of being able to take charge of the missionaries who had been interned, and of forwarding them on the homeward way…
