Other Info: An article published in the Hastings & St Leonards Observer on 6th January 1917 stated; “Joined at the end of July 1916, wen to the Front the last week in November, and was killed in action on December 11th 1916. According to CWGC, Harold is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 5D and 12B.

In the 1891 census the family was at 85 Ashburnham Road, Hastings. His father Arthur Pain was a mason, age 36, born Hastings. His mother Sarah was also 36, born Hooe, Sussex. Reginald was the youngest of eight children in that census, age 1, born Hastings. The family was at no. 85 in the 1901 census, including Reginald.
In the 1911 census Arthur's family was at 98 Ashburnham Road, an 8-roomed dwelling, a monumental and general mason, with wife and six children and a widowed sister in law. They had had 15 children, 10 of whom were alive.
Reginald was living at 90 New Bond Street, London as clerk to Drew Clifton, who was running an advertising business. Drew's wife Beatrice was also born at Hastings, and was probably Reginald's sister. In the 1891 census she was the eldest of the children and a 16-year old creamery assistant.
