Other Info: John was very popular. He was talented musically and sang in the choir for Mastins (a large department store, where Iceland is now) and probably the church. He also played the organ at the Fishermen s Church, after the organist went to war, and sang in the choir.
He worked at Harts iron mongers.
He was listed as missing in action in March 1918. His family had it confirmed in 1919 that he was shot and captured on the 23 March 1918. He died two days later as a prisoner of war in a field hospital at Roisel, Somme, Picardie.
In 1921 the Fishermen’s Church needed a new organ. It was decided that it would be installed in commemoration of John as he was the organist before his death. It also had a memorial to the others of the congregation that died in WW1.
According to CWGC, Stanley died aged 21. He is remembered at Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension, grave reference I.N.8.
