Other Info: Lost his life on HMS Pathfinder on 5th September 1914. According to CWGC, James was aged 27 when he died. HMS Pathfinder was torpedoed by German submarine U-21 and sank with the loss of 259 men. Albert is remembered at Chatham Naval Memorial on panel 2.

Other Info: Returned to the front after three months in hospital with frostbite. According to CWGC, Albert, by then a Lance Corporal, died aged 25 on 8th October 1918. He is remembered at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gouy, grave reference IV.B.10.

An article published in the Hastings & St Leonards Observer on 30th November 1918 provided a second photograph and stated that Albert was killed in action.

William’s photograph was also published in the Hastings & St Leonards Observer on 2nd November 1918 reporting that he had been killed in action.

Egyptian Expeditionary Forces, died of bronchial pneumonia at Alexandria on October 30th.”
