William Le Roy Jarvis

Rank: Private

Regiment: Army Service Corps, Canadian Expeditionary Force

Wife: Mrs E M Jarvis (nee Bethell)

Home Address: 1 Verulum Place, St Leonards

Mother: Mrs Rachel Jarvis

Other Info: A sad interest attaches to the death of William Le Roy Jarvis, Canadian Army Service Corps, who has been with his Unit at St Leonards since Christmas. Mr Jarvis was an American from Florida, but joined up with the Canadian Contingent.

On 10th April he was married to Miss Bethell, a local lady, and although he had a cold at the time there was no indication that he was seriously ill. He died, however, on 26th April, after only being married 16 days. Much sympathy has been expressed with the widow by her many friends. The funeral took place with full military honours at the Borough Cemetery, the ceremony being conducted by Captain Burnett, a Canadian Chaplain. Mr Jarvis was immensely popular with the Unit, there being a large attendance of men, with the Officer commanding and others. Numerous handsome wreaths were sent, amongst others, by Captain Biggar, Officer commanding, and men of the Unit. Sisters of the Canadian Military Hospital at Frederick Road, Lieutenant and Mrs Donaldson, Mr & Mrs Burnett (West Hill, St Leonards), Mr & Mrs Gray, Mrs Long and Mrs Neal (Tonbridge), Miss Mayne, etc. The Widow sent a duplicate of her wedding bouquet. Mrs Jarvis up to the time of her marriage had been doing nursing at Epsom as war work.

He is buried at Hastings Cemetery. Born in Barnwood, Ohio, USA.
