… has been awarded the Military Cross, on a recommendation by the General Staff, stating that he had distinguished himself by consistent good work and devotion to duty, whilst is power of organisation has been of the greatest assistance. R.S.M. Walker has been several times offered a commission but prefers to remain a Warrant Officer. He is the second son of Mrs Walker and is a native of this town. He is now at Division Headquarters in France. He has seen 18 years service in the Regular Army and went through the last two years of the South African campaign, for which he has the Queen’s Medal with five bars.
