Other Info: He enlisted in the Artists Rifles in January 1915 and was gazetted in December. He was wounded whilst on patrol on 26th / 27th April. Beloved by officers and men, he died doing his duty as an Englishman. Locally he was highly esteemed. He wrote several small plays and poems. At St Clements Church two of the former were performed and much appreciated.  He was 27 years of age.

According to CWGC, Stanley died on 29th April 1917. He was serving in the 5th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers at the time. Stanley is remembered at Bethune Town Cemetery, grave reference III.J.6.
