Other Info: In France. According to CWGC, Private Ling died aged 18 on 26th June 1916. He had achieved the rank of Lance Corporal at the time. He is remembered at Caberet Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, grave reference IA 5/16.

His father George is listed as living at Downside Farm, Cobham, Surrey when the graves were registered in 1921.

A German Trophy reads: “Mr B H Martin, of 7 Station Road, Hastings, now engaged as collector in the sorting room of the Hastings Post Office was formerly in the Royal Sussex but was discharged because of wounds he received  at La Bassee on December 23rd 1914, he () the German eagle shown in the () a German Officer’s arm at Ypres. Mr Martin is wearing the South African medal, having served through that war. He has also seen service in India.”
