A ScotcherAlbert Scotcher

Rank: Private

Regiment: 2nd Battalion, Dorset Regiment

Parents: Mr & Mrs T Scotcher

Address: 1 Mill Cottages, Baldslow, St Leonards

Other Info: More about Jesse Bignell aka Albert Scotcher. As well as the Dorset Regiment number 8546 Jesse served with the Suffolk Regiment number 70319 and Essex regiment number 33475. He was a private in all regiments. He survived the 1ww and continued serving in the Army into the 1920’s. Following his marriage to Marina Cruz (British Subject) in 1925 they had 3 children. Marina had a child in 1923 but I am unsure if Jesse was her father. Jesse died in 1942 at the age of 51 years in the District of Battle, Sussex.

Albert Scotcher was born in 1891 as Jesse Bignell son of Sarah Annie Bignell. Sarah later married Thomas Scotcher. Certainly while serving in the British Army Jesse used the name Albert Scotcher. He also married Marina Cruz while serving in Gilbralta in 1925 using the Name Albert Scotcher. Later on in the 1930’s he was using his birth name Jesse Bignell on the electoral role and the 1939 register.

Thank you to Linda James for this information.

Marina Cruz was my Grandmother , a strict disciplinarian I remember…. she died around 1974
Albert Scotcher aka Jesse Bignell was according to the family an unsavoury character!
