Hi Peter. I’m not sure. The Lives of the First World War website only has one Percy H Whitton in the Royal Sussex Regiment, who I think is the person in this post. I have just updated this post with these details. There is a Henry Whitton that served with the Army Pay Corps who was a captain and reached the rank of Major: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/4726041

There are no records that match your grandfathers exact name on that website, so its worth searching on there if you have some more information about the regiment he served with.

This was my grandfather, Captain Henry Percival Latham-Whitton M.M.who emigrated to New Zealand after the First World War. He was in Signals,(because he didn’t want “to shoot anyone”), and came to NZ with his new bride with the aim of having a small farm, (poultry and a vegetables / flowers by virtue of the of the bye products off the former), which he continued to do into his eighties on Waiheke Island. I would be very interested to know:
        a) Which battles he participated in.
        b) Who was his employer before he was shipped to France.
        c) The date he went to France and when he was repatriated.
