Samuel Horne

Samuel Horne

Rank: Shipkeeper

Regiment: Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves

Other Info: The text reads: “The photograph on the left shows Mr Samuel Horne and his three sons. He is a member of a remarkable family, a son of Mrs Jane Nelson (see in the picture on the right) of Fore Street, Exmouth, who has received a letter from the King congratulating her on having seven sons in the Navy. She also has three grandsons serving making ten in all from one family. One of the grandsons, now on the ‘Superb’, is shown in the above picture, with his father, Mr Samuel Horne, who was on the ‘Northumberland’ when His Majesty the King was serving on the same ship as Lieutenant. Mr Horne has been Shipkeeper at the RNVR Drill Hall, West St Leonards since its opening, and has been on active service since the war broke out.
