He was serving with the 58th Company, Machine Gun Corps. Edward is remembered at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwgc.org\/find-a-cemetery\/cemetery\/80800\/THIEPVAL%20MEMORIAL\">Thiepval Memorial<\/a>, Pier and Face 5c and 12c.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sussexhistoryforum.co.uk\/index.php?action=printpage;topic=5854.0\">This webpage<\/a> provides the following quote about Edward: &#8220;It is with regret that we announce that Private Puttick, second son of Mr. W. Puttick, of North-terrace, has been killed in action. The young soldier, who was only 19 years of age, enlisted twelve months ago last November, in the Seaforth Highlanders, and then transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. In a letter received from the officer of the young man&#8217;s company, the parents are informed that their son was killed by a shell in the early days of this last great battle, while he was calling for stretcher bearers for a wounded comrade. In the letter the officer says:\u2014 &#8220;He has been with me ever since the Company was formed, and I always found him a trustworthy and willing soldier.
