Other Info:<\/em> The text reads: “… who was killed in action in France at Ploeg Steert on 1st February 1916 was the second son of T W B Crowther of Narangala, Ceylon. He was born in Ceylon in 1889 and came home for his education in ? to St Leonards where he was brought up under the shadow of Christ Church being in the church for several years. In 1908 he went out to Canada to farm and there took up a quarter section of Government land, built his own house and hoped to be married in 1914, but when the War broke out he felt it his duty to join the forces and came over with the 3rd Canadian Contingent in September 1915. He was sent to the Front early in 1916 and was killed after only a fortnight in the trenches.<\/p>\n

He came from good old fighting stock, being descended on his father’s side from Mrs Matcham, the sister of Lord Horatio Nelson and on his mother’s side from General Lord Harris, the victor of Seringapatham, as well as being the great grandson of the Right Hon. Stephen Rumbold Lushington, M.P., and Governor of Madras and Mr James B. Wildman of Chilham Castle, Kent.<\/p>\n

According to CWGC, George is remembered at Berks Cemetery Extension<\/a>, grave reference II.C.35.<\/p>\n
