Other Info:<\/em>\u00a0The text reads: “Many of the old boys of Hastings Grammar School will be interested to hear that Mr George W N Day (the adoptive son and nephew of Mr and Mrs John Day…) who left the old country for Canada some nine years ago, is now a Lieutenant of the 95th Battalion of the Canadian Forces, and is expected with his regiment in England in the coming spring. Lieutenant Day has been for the last eight years the Editor of ‘The Contract Record’, Toronto Edition from the November number of which the following is an extract:<\/p>\n

“Pro Patria. Lieutenant George W N Day, Editor of the Contract Record, has accepted a commission with the 95th Battalion, now in course of formation by Colonel R K Barker. Lieutenant Day, like many another good men, and a loyal British citizen, has not hesitated to sacrifice the permanent position he has attained with his company through some eight years hard work back by ability of a high order, at his county’s call. Indeed, if guarantee other than his own personality were needed, the almost ‘national’ character which the ‘Contract Record’ has attained under Lieutenant Day’s guidance would amply justify our confidence that he and the men under his command will give a ‘British’ account of themselves in the battle line.<\/p>\n

The members of staff he leaves behind, with his many friends through the dominion wish him ‘Godspeed’ and ‘a happy issue'”.<\/p>\n

This appreciative notice is from the pen of Mr Thomas Young, the Managing Director of the company Hugh McClean Limited, the proprietors of of The Contract Record who visited England last year. Lieutenant Day was educated at the Hastings Grammar School under Mr La Touche, and the City of London School, and was for some years in the Sussex Yeomanry. The above photograph shows him in the uniform of his battalion.<\/p>\n
